Current Membership Policy

The Canadian Association of International Development Professionals (CAIDP) is a non-profit corporation, federally registered in February 1993 to give a voice to the concerns and interests of Canadian international development professionals.

CAIDP has four categories of Members:

  • Corporate Members: Organizations -- for profit, not for profit, or academic, involved in international development, which have paid the appropriate annual corporate membership fee. The fee for corporations depends on the size of the organization in terms of number of people currently and regularly working at the organization (sole proprietors should join as individual members). Each corporate member is entitled to appoint two (2) representatives – each one with one (1) vote - to attend and act on behalf of the corporation to meetings of Members. Attendance and voting options are the same as for individuals. Note that one representative can carry the proxy vote of the other. Corporate members can nominate a person to run for election to the Board of Directors of CAIDP. All employees of corporate members can attend CAIDP events at the member rates and can join the association as associate members.
  • Individual Members: Individual development professional who have paid the annual individual membership fee. These individuals should be actively working in international development and providing their services as individuals or sole proprietors, not the owners or partners in firms or employees of a CAIDP Corporate Member. Each individual member may attend meetings of Members, in person or via telecom and exercise one (1) vote in respect to each matter, in person, over telecom, or by proxy, which may come before meetings of Members. Individuals may run for election to the Board of Directors of CAIDP.
  • Associate Members: Individuals who are interested in international development but not actively working full- or part-time in providing services as an international development professional; or who are employed by an organization or institution that is a Corporate member of CAIDP, can become associate members by paying the associate membership fee. Each associate member may attend meetings of Members but cannot exercise a vote in respect to matters which may come before meetings of Members, nor can they run for election to the Board of Directors.
  • Student Members: Students who are interested in international development, have a valid student ID card and are enrolled in an education program may purchase student memberships in the association. Each student member may attend meetings of Members but cannot exercise a vote in respect to matters which may come before meetings of Members, nor can they run for election to the Board of Directors.

Current Refund Policy

All membership sales are final. We do not offer refunds for memberships.

In the event that the same individual has purchased multiple memberships for the same period, CAIDP will endeavor to refund the extra membership packages, until the member has been charged for only one of the desired membership.

Special transfer or refund case scenarios for memberships will be evaluated by the CAIDP membership committee on a case-by-case basis, and they will provide justification and final course of action for each of these special cases.

Use of the CAIDP Name

As many tenders look with favor on membership in a professional association, all paid up members are welcome to mention their CAIDP membership in their promotional materials, for example by including the phrase: "Member Canadian Association of International Development Professionals (CAIDP)", and/or "I/we adhere to the CAIDP Professional Code of Conduct". You may also send prospective employers a link to your CAIDP profile. Members can also read more information about the use of the CAIDP name and logos at https://www.caidp-rpcdi.ca/using-caidp-logos.

Purchasing a Membership

When purchasing/renewing a CAIDP Membership, all Members must adhere to the Professional Code of Conduct and to the Terms of Service below. Members are free to select the appropriate class of membership but knowingly selecting a lower cost membership than applies to you would be a violation of the CAIDP Professional Code of Conduct and could be the basis for expulsion from the association.

Professional Code of Conduct

Each CAIDP Member must adhere to the CAIDP Professional Code of Conduct. There are no exceptions, all CAIDP Members must read, understand and adhere to this code of conduct at any time. Any member found disregarding this policy might have their membership revoked by the CAIDP Membership committee without refund.
