Joe Clark to Address International Development Community

The Canadian Council for International Co-operation (CCIC) and Canadian Association of International Development Professional (CAIDP) are pleased to announce that Rt. Hon. Joe Clark will be a keynote speaker at a conference they are jointly organizing in May in Ottawa, Ontario.

Mr. Clark will be addressing the attendees on what he believes are the missteps in Canada’s recent foreign policy and what Canada can do to best position itself for success in the future. This is subject of his latest book, How We Lead: Canada in a Century of Change, released by Random House Canada late in 2013.

The conference, “Redefining Development Partnerships: A new Role for Canadians in Global Equality and Cooperation”, marks the first time that CCIC and CAIDP will be holding a joint conference. Other keynotes and panelists – from Canada and abroad – will be announced shortly.

“Our plan is to bring the entire Canadian development community together in Ottawa on May 13th to 15th to share experience and expertise from across the country”, said Pamela Branch, Director of the Board of CAIDP.

“We will be inviting other groups to join this collaborative effort as well,” said Julia Sanchez, President-CEO of CCIC. “The intent is to create a platform for all those engaged in international development to come together.”

CCIC and CAIDP recognize that given Canada’s diminishing official development assistance, and the changing landscape and new players on the global scene, it is essential that all development actors find new and innovative ways to deliver programs that have positive outcomes for people and the planet. Effective and equitable partnerships are key to that.

CCIC and CAIDP will convene the expertise and experience of Canada’s development community to examine how Canada and Canadians can contribute to global equality and cooperation, and the role that partnerships have to play in that endeavour.

CCIC is a coalition of Canadian voluntary sector organizations working globally to achieve sustainable human development since 1968.

CADIP is a non-profit voluntary association founded in 1993 to provide a voice for Canadians working professionally in international development.

Notes:
The Right Honourable Joe Clark was elected eight times to the federal House of Commons and is the first and only Alberta native to serve as Prime Minister of Canada. Since leaving politics in 2003, Mr. Clark has worked in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, advising Governments and their Electoral Commissions and has served on the Boards of Canadian and international NGOs and companies. Mr. Clark is currently the President of Joe Clark & Associates Limited, Vice-Chairman of the Global Leadership Foundation, a member of Inter-American Dialogue, and Professor of Practice for Public-Private Sector Partnerships in the Institute for the Study of International Development, McGill University.
