Advancing Democracy in a Changing World

Perspectives from Parliament on Canada’s Role

The Canadian Association of International Development Professionals (CAIDP) in partnership with the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA) and the Parliamentary Centre is pleased to announce a special free event to launch our 2024 Conference: “Advancing Democracy in a Changing World”.

Join us on February 20 at 5 pm as Canadian Parliamentarians and party officials will discuss our country’s role in making a positive difference in the face of the challenges facing democracy around the world. Moderator Maureen Boyd will convene a panel of representatives of the Liberal, Conservative, New Democratic and Bloq parties as well as from the Canadian Senate to debate this important issue.

A reception will follow.

Moderator:

Maureen Boyd is the Director of the Carleton Initiative for Parliamentary and Diplomatic Engagement, the Chair Emeritus of the Parliamentary Centre, and a Fellow at the Canadian Global Affairs Institute. She has worked in politics, the media, at Rideau Hall and in government, including as a senior political staffer, national political and current affairs reporter and host for television news, communications advisor and public policy analyst.

Senator Andrew Cardozo, Progressive Senate Group, Member of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade

Anita Vandenbeld, MP, is the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Development and the Liberal Member of Parliament for Ottawa West-Nepean. Prior to entering politics Anita had a distinguished career in international development and human rights.

Garnett Genuis, MP, Conservative Party, Vice-Chair of Subcommittee on International Human Rights of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development (by video)
