We are seeking a Vice President, External Relations, to lead the design and implementation of essential engagement strategies to position the Parliamentary Centre as Canada’s global leader for democracy.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will be a key member of the leadership team charged with implementing the Parliamentary Centre’s bold new strategic plan. You will develop and oversee programming that deepens most important relationships, strengthens our impact and broadens our support base.
You are a proven networker with impeccable relationship management skills, political judgement, diplomacy and tact. You have an excellent understanding of the functioning and importance of Canada’s democratic institutions, ideally gained through practical work experience. You understand that supporting inclusive democratic development is vital to Canada’s foreign, trade and development policies.
Working closely with the Board of Directors, you will lead the design and evolution of Parliamentary Centre’s new flagship program EngageParlDiplo to deliver post-election orientations about Canada’s democratic institutional framework for newly elected Members of Parliament after each election and annual orientations for newly arrived diplomats to Canada. Under the initiative, you will provide leadership to visiting scholars to conceive and stimulate dialogues that explore policy issues critical to democratic resilience and Canada’s global positioning as the centrepiece of our thought leadership and program development efforts.
Through market analysis and the development of funds mobilization strategies, you will expand and diversify the Centre’s donor base and work closely with the CEO to support the fundraising efforts of the board of directors.
You are fluently bilingual and, with your impeccable writing skills and proven expertise in strategic communications, you will provide Centre-wide leadership for the planning, development and execution of external communications strategies, programs and initiatives. This will include developing innovative ways of telling the human impact of our work to strengthen inclusive democracy using traditional and new media.
The position is based in Ottawa with potential domestic and international travel. The job can be done remotely until pandemic-related restrictions on accessing the Ottawa office are eased. However, relocation support to Ottawa is not available.
