Project Description
United for Care-Sensitive Approaches (UCARE) is a CAD $9.8M five-year project funded by Global Affairs Canada which will run from April 2024 – March 2029. The project seeks to enhance the well-being of women and adolescent girls in northern Ghana by redistributing and reducing the heavy, unequal and unfair burden of unpaid care and domestic work (UCW) they perform. The project operates within the Canadian Feminist International Assistance Policy and supports the objectives of the Government of Ghana in meeting its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 5.4.

The Role
Alinea International is seeking the expertise and services of a consultant to work with UCARE’s partner SEND Ghana to produce a Gender Model Family (GMF) Implementation Manual, as well as a Training of Trainers package. SEND Ghana’s GMF program enables men and women to address the underlying causes of deeply entrenched gender inequality and brings recognition to the heavy burden of unpaid care and domestic work.

To ensure the high quality and consistent delivery and monitoring the GMF program, the consultant will gather and review existing documentation on GMF implementation and, with the SEND Ghana and UCARE team, identify gaps and areas needing updates. The new manual will also include a section on unpaid care work, working with polygamous families and additional field tools to identify/address unpaid care work in the GMF roll out.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct a comprehensive review of SEND’s existing GMF manuals and processes
  • Consult with SEND Ghana and UCARE staff to identify gaps and areas for updating
  • Collaborate with SEND Ghana and UCARE MEL and GESI staff to ensure MEL and GESI are integrated into the manual and training packages.
  • Conduct a two-day workshop in Tamale with SEND team and experienced GMF Facilitators
  • Draft a GMF Implementation Manual for facilitators to establish, support and monitor GMFs and a Training of Trainer guide and training package for SEND to use in training new facilitators
  • Review and finalize the deliverable in close collaboration with SEND Ghana and UCARE teams

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Organizational Development, Education, Gender Studies or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of training manuals and guides
  • Demonstrated experience applying adult education and learning approaches; coaching and mentoring experience a plus
  • Ability to integrate gender equality objectives and analysis into training materials design
  • Strong workshop facilitation skills
  • Experience conducting needs assessments, and developing appropriate training materials
  • Excellent English language written abilities, with strong skills using MS Word suite of software
