The Artisanal Gold Council: Based out of Victoria, Canada, the Artisanal Gold Council (AGC) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the opportunities, environment, and health of the millions of people involved in Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) in the developing world, and in doing so, improving the global gold sector.
The AGC consists of a core staff, associates and a council of experts (Board of Directors) in areas of ASGM, economics, sustainable development, social responsibility, human and environmental health, and gold production and extraction. The AGC works in many different regions of the world.

Project description: The anticipated project will run for 16 months. The project is part of the enabling actions for the Minamata Convention on Mercury. The project will facilitate the development of a National Action Plan for the ASGM sector in Gabon, and thus improve the capacity of the national government to manage mercury use and emissions within this sector.
Position Description: Based in Libreville, the project manager will be the Artisanal Gold Council representative in Gabon and will lead the development, coordination and implementation of activities to facilitate the drafting of a National Action Plan for ASGM in Gabon. This will include facilitating different policy processes in several ministries (mainly Health and Welfare; Industry and Tourism; and Forest, Environment and Protection of Natural Resources) and building relationships with various government officials. It will also include providing direction/management for field research on health and baseline research in the ASGM sector.
He/she will be responsible for project staff supervision and all project reporting. The project manager will report to a project director based at AGC headquarters who will provide overall guidance, supervision, and authority. The position will require travel to remote ASGM areas in Gabon.
Requirements:
-7+ years in result-based program management and implementation, ideally in an African context
-Ability to demonstrate past project management results and outcomes
-Excellent knowledge of the Gabonese policy environment
-Excellent French written and oral language skills; Functional English written and oral skills
-Experience managing/supervising staff
-Experience working with government bodies, and building and maintaining relationships
-Experience in policy development and/or implementing international agreements
-Experience managing field research an asset
-Knowledge of artisanal and small scale mining, ideally gold, an asset
-Experience working in a small not for profit organization an asset
Desired Qualifications:
-A post-secondary degree (Masters preferred) in relevant field
-Basic understanding of technical or mining processes and equipment an asset
- Comfortable managing and using Microsoft Office suite
