CHF is currently recruiting for the position of Canadian Field Project Director (CFPD) for a large project in Northern Ghana. PROJECT OVERVIEW: CHF will be responsible for the overall project management and delivery of a large project in Northern Ghana and will deliver the project in partnership with its local partner, the Association of Church-based Development NGOs (ACDEP). CHF will work within rural communities to improve livelihoods and household food security and reduce poverty.

POSITION OVERVIEW: Based in Tamale, working with three regional offices in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions and with select Agricultural Centers, CHF’s Canadian Field Project Director (CFPD) will be responsible for management of the project, including project planning, implementation, contracting, and reporting and for managing relationships with ACDEP, liaising with a diversity of key stakeholders, and for managing a cadre of senior-level technical specialists, including a Deputy Field Project Director (DFPD), as well as being responsible for capacity building. REQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

A Master’s Degree from a recognized university in a field related to rural development (i.e.: food security, income generation, community development, sustainable livelihoods, agriculture, etc.) or an equivalent number of years of relevant, senior-level international development experience.

EXPERIENCE

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES (KSAs)

10 years of professional experience in international rural development

Broad knowledge-base and experience in project design, management and monitoring and evaluation, preferably with CIDA funded projects

5 years of professional experience managing complex CIDA funded projects in the poverty alleviation, food security, agriculture and livelihoods sectors

Sound and current knowledge of development concepts, methodologies and techniques including demonstrated expertise in at least one specialist development field

5 years of demonstrated experience and a proven track record in a senior project management role related to rural development

Thorough knowledge of the Sustainable Livelihoods Approach and other participatory approaches, as well as participatory project planning, monitoring and reporting using Results Based Management and/or Logic Framework Analysis

2 years of continuous field-based experience in a developing country, preferably in Africa

A highly effective and collaborative communicator possessing an exceptional capacity for delivering both written (English) and verbal communications; capacity to establish strong supportive relationships with partners and staff

A significant degree of experience in project leadership, including experience with donor results-based management policies, financial reporting and contracting requirements

Skilful networking and experience in partnership-building and working in collaboration with Southern partner organizations, governments and donors

Proven experience managing complex financial control and management systems

Excellent negotiation and communication skills, including demonstrated ability to handle highly sensitive issues with diplomacy and tact

Human resources management experience in a field office setting

Strong leadership and management skills

 

Must be a Canadian citizen or possess Canadian landed immigrant status

Strong analytical and problem solving skills

 

Must be available to travel locally, regionally and internationally, sometimes on extended assignments and under challenging conditions

 

Proven skills in capacity building of local NGOs, with experience providing technical assistance and training
