About the portfolio:
The Canadian Project Director will manage and provide technical support to a portfolio of multi-year, multi-country projects funded by Global Affairs Canada, which may include initiatives that will: increase the climate resilience of nature-based businesses led by women in the Pacific; enhance the conservation and quality of life of citizens in protected marine and coastal ecosystems in the Caribbean and Latin America; and strengthen biodiversity-rich ecosystems in sub-Saharan Africa.
The Role
This position will combine project management and technical expertise in climate change and nature-positive solutions. The Project Director will act as a senior member of the project management team and will be responsible for overall management and delivery of the project in accordance with the stated expectations of the governments of Canada and project countries.
Reporting to the Director of Climate Change and Nature-Positive Solutions, the Canadian Project Director will liaise with Global Affairs Canada; develop and implement overall strategy and direction; manage international consultants; liaise/coordinate with field offices and project staff; prepare annual workplans, budgets, reporting and provide oversight of the MEL program; provide technical assistance to other projects in climate change and nature-positive solutions; support proposal development; undertake other management activities as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Advanced degree and technical expertise in climate change, nature-positive solutions and biodiversity conservation, protection and governance;
- Minimum of 7 years of leading complex, multi-year donor-funded projects in developing countries;
- Demonstrated experience overseeing administrative and financial functions and ensuring quality delivery across the project;
- Experience delivering technical assistance and expertise in climate change, nature-positive solutions and biodiversity governance;
- Proven ability to engage with and build relationships with donors, partners, and stakeholders;
- Experience delivering project documents such as implementation plans, annual work plans, budgets, operational procedures and manuals, and financial and narrative reports;
- Familiarity with Global Affairs Canada and other key international donors in climate funding and experience in designing projects;
- Practical knowledge of results-based management (RBM) approach;
- Experience managing a team of local staff and technical experts;
- Experience in the Asia-Pacific region, sub-Saharan Africa and/or the Caribbean and Latin America is considered a strong asset;
- Fluency in English and French is preferred; Spanish is an asset.
