SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
The Research Lead will be a core member of the team, reporting directly to the Team Leader to support the delivery of local contextual research to provide context analysis and ensure conflict sensitivity throughout.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the development and implementation of the programme’s approach to research of new stabilisation interventions
- Conduct scoping activities, and design research scope to inform project development, selection and implementation, and ensure alignment with Malian needs
- Maintain a high degree of quality control over research and analysis conducted internally and by partners
- Provide technical assistance to key stakeholders for empowered formulation of projects
- Support the development of potential projects through scoping activity to generate new ideas for stabilisation interventions
- Coordinate research interventions with partners and experts
- Lead on reporting for research-related outputs, as well as fulfilment of contractual reporting to the client
- Coordinate and participate in the planning and delivery of events, e.g. workshops, discussion groups, joint research working groups
- Together with the MEL team, ensure that iterative learning processes are actively informing the development and adaptation of the project
- Provide strategic direction to the Team Leader, ensuring an informed and evidence-based approach is embedded into decision-making processes
- Proactively seek to share knowledge with, coordinate programme inputs and learn from other interested stakeholders
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- A relevant professional qualification or graduate degree
Essential Skills:
- At least 10 years’ experience in research, developing and operationalising research-into-use strategies in a conflict/post conflict context
- Culturally sensitive and aware of the context and dynamics in Mali
- Strong track record in stabilisation and peacebuilding interventions with an experience in informing the development of local interventions
- Detailed knowledge of international peacebuilding policy trends in the Sahel
- Established relationships with CSOs and state authorities in Mali and the Sahel
- Experience in mainstreaming conflict sensitivity, gender sensitivity, a Do No Harm approach, and the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda into programme design and implementation
- Excellent communication skills in English and French (speaking and writing)
- Malian nationals, and individuals with experience in Mali/Sahel, highly encouraged to apply and knowledge of local languages is an asset.
