JUSTICE EDUCATION SOCIETY (JES)

The Justice Education Society of British Columbia (JES) is a non-profit organization with over 30 years of experience providing public legal education and justice system capacity building in Canada and overseas.  In Canada, JES helps more than 700,000 British Columbians learn about our justice system and address their legal issues.  Internationally, JES has programs in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Panama and Guyana which work with national institutions to strengthen justice systems, access to justice and citizen security.  JES has offices in Canada, Guatemala, Honduras and Guyana and diverse sources of funding, including donors and provincial, federal and overseas governments. THE POSITION

The Project Manager is based in Canada and is responsible for the day-to-day management and close-out of the project: Strengthening the Criminal Justice System in Guyana funded by INL.

DUTIES AND  RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Development, Delivery and Close-out

  • Manage the implementation of project activities in coordination with senior management.
  • Produce a detailed work plan sequencing all activities and ensuring delivery of all activities on time, within budget and to an appropriate quality.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Coordinating with JES senior management and contracted Project Director to assess project impact.
  • Ensure that all donor contract responsibilities with respect to monitoring, reporting and evaluation activities are met.
  • Contribute to and regularly update a Performance Management Framework in accordance with donor requirements.

People Management

  • Supervise and evaluate in-country project staff in accordance with JES HR policies.

Financial Management

  • Manage all project funds according to JES accounting and finance policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with JES and donor procurement requirements.
  • Monitor project cash flow projections and report actual cash flow and variance to the finance director on a regular basis.
  • Monitor and approve all project expenses and oversee financial reporting of project expenses.

Reporting and compliance

  • Produce quarterly narrative reports in accordance with funder requirements and review financial reports.
  • Produce reports for internal and external audiences as required.
  • Produce ad hoc reports for JES Senior Management or donors as required.
  • Manage INL Project close-out.

Confidentiality and Regulations

  • Keep all project related information under confidentiality.
  • Observe and comply with all manuals, policies, regulations and procedures established by JES.
  • Participate in meetings and other JES activities as requested.
  • Show respect and responsibility in the performance of the activities assigned and in personal interactions with peers and supervisors.
  • Attend to all training activities that are needed to grow or strengthen skills to excel performance in the role.
  • Immediately communicate any work-related concerns to the direct supervisor.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Highly organized.
  • Proven ability to solve problems creatively.
  • Strong familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Experience seeing projects through the full life cycle.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Business Administration, Management or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience.

Other

  • nternational travel may be required.
  • You must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or have a valid work permit issued by the Government of Canada.
