Position Summary and Purpose 

Reporting to the Vice-President Programs (VPP), the Advisor for Inclusive Sustainable Economic Growth (ISEG) is responsible for providing technical advice and support services to CHF’s Food Security & Nutrition (FS&N) and ISEG programming priorities. The position provides technical support to CHF’s portfolio of overseas projects, including at the design, planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting stages of the project cycle, with related regular field missions. Responsibilities also include providing business development (BD) and resource mobilization support to CHF in line with Board approved priorities and CHF’s strategic planning framework. The Advisor works in close coordination with other members of the Program Division to maximize synergies. 

Major Responsibilities and Accountabilities 

Program Development and Implementation 

  • Provides technical advice and support to CHF Programs/Projects and local NGO partners in the areas of Inclusive Sustainable Economic Growth (ISEG) and market-led development (MLD); 
  • Provides technical support for CHF’s portfolio of overseas projects including at the design, planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting, and evaluation stages, with regular field missions related to these initiatives; 
  • Designs, reviews and updates strategies, methodologies and tools for ISEG and MLD; 
  • Actively participates in the development, articulation and implementation of CHF’s “Theory of Change”; 
  • Represents CHF at forums, conferences and symposia in Canada and abroad as appropriate and as approved by the VPP; 
  • Performs other duties as required. 

Business Development 

  • In close consultation with the VPP ,researches and develops potential opportunities with DFATD and international funding agencies; 
  • Contributes to program development through participation in multi-disciplinary teams for bid and proposal preparation; 
  • Contributes to mapping country level priorities of selected donors that are aligned with CHF’s programming priorities and country specific priorities of national governments. 

Knowledge Management 

  • Contributes to knowledge sharing and organizational learning through formal and informal exchanges and information dissemination on assigned Projects; 
  • Develops CHF position papers related to ISEG and MLD; 
  • Keeps technical skills and knowledge current, performs other duties as required. 

General Operations 

  • Participates in team knowledge sharing activities and tasks; 
  • Provides information and other materials for use with CHF’s Canadian constituency and assists with project-related communication strategies and fundraising activities as required. 

Education and Experience 

  • A Master’s Degree in Business, or, a related field with emphasis on rural development, agri-business, local economic development, micro, small and medium enterprise development, and/or inclusive (pro-poor) sustainable economic growth; 
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in pro-poor sustainable economic growth/MLD, with at least three (3) years field experience in a developing countries; 
  • Experience working with/coaching field staff; 
  • Experience consulting/working with national governments, local partners, and civil society organizations. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Knowledge of institutional donor policies, practices, and procedures, including those of DFATD, particularly as relates to economic development/growth; 
  • Project Design, management and monitoring skills; 
  • Technical assistance experience related to pro-poor economic growth; 
  • Strong team player with ability to work well with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural co-workers and field staff; 
  • BD experience, as it relates to developing bids/proposals for Multilateral Development Banks and other bilateral donors; 
  • Working abilities with standard MS Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.); 
  • Strong communication abilities; 
  • Strong presentation/workshop leadership abilities; 
  • Ability to work in both (English/French) official languages (English mandatory) is an asset; 
  • Must be willing and able to travel internationally. 

Working Conditions 

This position is located at CHF HQ in an office environment and requires frequent travel overseas to field office locations.
