While considerable attention is focused on China, the new G-2 world order, responses and challenges, India draws much less attention. Amitav Rath will discuss how he sees the developments in India, locating it within Indian historical experiences and world views, to develop some likely scenarios of Indian development for the future. He will situate India's emergence in several perspectives - from the sub-national, to the regional and global contexts, and explore Indian developments as they are caused by and affect the rest of the world in the changing landscapes of geopolitics and the global economy.
Dr. Amitav Rath has over thirty years of experience in multiple roles as a policy analyst and adviser to governments and multi-lateral institutions; as a "hands-on" consultant working with small to large firms on improving productivity and competitiveness; and as a researcher and an academic. His education combines science and engineering at IIT, in India, with business, economics, and systems at UC, Berkeley. He has worked extensively on issues related to economic growth, innovation and technical change, and on issues of energy, climate change and sustainable development. At present he directs a consulting practice at Policy Research International based in Ottawa and is also an Adjunct Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar, and a Research Fellow at the Institute for Economic Research on Innovation (IERI), Tshwane University, South Africa. Earlier, he worked for the International Development Research Centre and with organizations such as CIDA; the World Bank; Asian Development Bank; many UN agencies and national governments in China and India. He has been involved in teaching and research at many universities in Canada, India and other countries.
