As for training Afghan troops: Few, if any, units of the army are yet strong enough to resist aggression independently. But, she also notes: The Taliban movement does not represent popular resistance to the Afghan government or the foreign troops. Abandoning Afghanistan at this stage is certain to result in a Taliban takeover of the country and clear the field for al-Qaedas return.
