About the project:
Enhancing Community Climate Options for Adaptation and Resilience in Mongolia (ECCO-FARM) is a five-year project that will work with rural Mongolian communities to adopt Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), Agriculture Nature-based Solutions (AG-NBS) and biodiversity protection strategies supporting sustainable production, agricultural growth, food security and climate change adaptation (CCA).
ECCO-FARM will contribute to an equitable, climate resilient livestock sector and build the integration between the livestock and crop sectors. Innovative practices will increase carbon sequestration and improve soil and water quality to enhance agricultural productivity and biodiversity leading to greater resiliency to climate change shocks. With new value chain approaches, men and women will capture greater product values and improve their incomes, contributing to poverty reduction and food security.
The Role
Technical focus
The successful candidate will have a background in:
- Agricultural innovation systems, (AIS)
- Climate smart agriculture, (CSA)
- Climate change and climate smart livestock.
- Agriculture and regenerative agriculture, (livestock, crops, pasture or range management, economics, value chains, agribusiness).
Technical responsibilities within the project include, but are not limited to:
1100: Increased adoption of inclusive, gender-responsive CSA climate-smart agriculture (CSA) and agricultural nature-based solutions (Ag-NBS) by livestock small-scale herders and sustainable food value chains actors, particularly women and youth.
1120: Agricultural Innovation System (AIS)
In a collaborative manner with local stakeholders, staff and consultants, develop and lead the strategy for agricultural innovation related specifically to:
- Climate change adaptation
- Livestock value chain development
- Forage and feed production
- Other technical areas relevant to ECCO-FARM.
Strengthen the linkages between Mongolian research and education organizations (MULS, IPAS, RIAH), MOFALI and communities (PUGs, other producer coops/associations, soum govt., etc) through participatory extension, field schools, pilot project, social media, etc.
Lead the development of a capacity building plan for agricultural researchers/extensionist and support the development and facilitation of a community of practice for agriculture innovation.
Required Qualifications:
- Post graduate degree in Climate smart agriculture and/or Agriculture innovation systems.
- Previous Project Management experience in an international development organization preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in CSA and/or AIS
- Demonstrated experience overseeing administrative and financial functions and ensuring quality delivery across the project;
- Proven ability to engage with and build relationships with donors, partners, and stakeholders;
- Experience delivering project documents such as implementation plans, annual work plans, budgets, operational procedures and manuals, and financial and narrative reports;
- Familiarity with Global Affairs Canada and other key international donors;
- Practical knowledge of results-based management (RBM) approach;
- Experience managing a team of local staff and technical experts;
- Experience in Mongolia is considered a strong asset;
- Fluency in English or French is required.
